Key Performance Indicator (KPI)

Last updated Feb 9, 2024

A Key Performance Indicator (KPI) is a metric used to gauge the performance and success of an organization or specific activities it undertakes. These activities can range from projects and programs to products and various other initiatives.

In the US, KPIs are sometimes referred to as OKR (Objectives and Key Results). KPIs encompass a range of measurements, with Metrics often serving as a subset. While ‘metrics’ can be synonymous with KPIs, they are typically considered a specific part of the broader KPI concept.
