I think there are main types of content and it’s sub categories.

  • Books: Extended works on specific subjects, typically with structured chapters and thorough exploration
  • Blog Posts: Static and defining something at a certain time
  • (Continuous) Note: Notes that continuously get updated in a system such as a Second Brain or Digital Garden.
    • Highlighting and notes on external reads: Thinking that influences and adds to continuous notes. Synced with tools such as ReadWise to your second brain.
  • Academic and Formal Writings: Structured content following specific formats for particular purposes
    • Essay: Extended, structured arguments or explorations of specific topics
    • Abstract: Concise summaries of longer works
    • Manifesto: Public declarations of intentions, motives, or views
    • Thesis: Extended academic arguments supporting a specific point of view
    • White Paper: Authoritative reports on complex issues
    • Case Study: Detailed analyses of specific instances or examples
  • Exploratory Content: Content focused on thorough investigation and discovery
    • Deep Dive: Comprehensive, detailed explorations of specific topics, often less formal than essays and potentially incorporating multimedia elements
    • Research Journal: Ongoing documentation of exploration into a particular topic
    • Explainer: Content that breaks down complex topics into understandable components
    • Tutorial: Step-by-step instructional content focused on practical application
