Slowing Down

Last updatedUpdated: by Simon Späti · CreatedCreated: · 2 min read

Slowing down, like Thinking, Fast and Slow (Daniel Kahneman) and Slow Living is the best way to live life. My credo was always slowing down for more long term impact, but that’s more true than ever?

# Thinking, Fast and Flow

Generally, in life and work, slowing down and leaning into Boring Life might be less “productive” in the short term. Still, it’s usually more fulfilling, and I’d bet that, if you look at the long term rather than the immediate outcome, it might be even more impactful.

In the end, it’s also a question of slowing down, like the book Thinking, Fast and Slow (Daniel Kahneman) with the two systems:

  • System 1 = The instant, unconscious, automatic, emotional, intuitive thinking.
  • System 2 = The slower, conscious, rational, reasoning, deliberate thinking.

System 1 uses AI and just Replacing the Human Thinking.

# Thinking Slow: Cultivate Taste

Another way of saying the same would be to create taste; you need to think and slow down to develop it. Kepano says:

Taste is a study of nuance, it requires slowing down. Kepano, LinkedIn

# Voice-to-Text

Related is voice to text, as we just brain dump our thoughts, but no real thinking happens - which is fine sometimes, but not for Deep Work in my opinion. See more thought at Voice-to-Text and Slowing Down.

# Slowing down is Needed for Creativity

Creative people need time to sit around and do nothing. A quote I saw on Twitter that resonated with me:

Creative people need time to sit around and do nothing. Tweet

# Embrace the boredom

I wrote about Boredom is the New Luxury, and I think it’s very true. Boredom must be embraced to be creative or work deeply.
