Modern Semantic Layer

I have written about The Rise of the Semantic Layer, where I stated that a Semantic Layer is nothing new; it has existed within BI Tools since its inception.

However, newer tools, such as in Semantic Layer described, are independent and have many new features. The main difference to a semantic layer in a BI tool is that it’s declarative, usually in YAML, and can be versioned, automated, and applied to different BI tools, not only one.
