👨💻 About Simon Späti
Hi there! I’m Simon and the author of this blog. I am a dad and family person who has pivoted into Technical Writing an has been working in the field of Data Engineering for over 20 years. I love using my skills to make a positive impact on the world around me.
One of my passions is writing, and I’m the author of ssp.sh, the #1 ranked blog on Google for Data Engineering. I’ve also written for publications such as Towards Data Science, freeCodeCamp, and Hackernoon, and have been recognized as one of the top writers in my field on Quora since 2020. Recently, I was even mentioned as a top 25 Influencer and content creator on databand.ai.
One of my contributions to the field is the creation of the revolutionary Data Glossary. It’s a connected knowledge hub that uses backlinks and interactive graphs to help users learn in a connected way. Unlike traditional approaches, it allows users to dive deeper and explore topics in a more meaningful way.
I’m always excited to learn about new open-source technologies, and I use an extensive Personal Knowledge Management Workflow to capture, organize, and share my knowledge with others. Recently, I created my Public Second Brain, which is an extension of my workflow and helps me to lead a deeper life.
📖 What I’m doing now
This time I keep it short as I introduced a new Newsletter with more context, where I update the latest on Data Engineering and my Second Brain.
In this June Newsletter, I introduced a new informal format for updates and discussions on Data Engineering and other topics. I recently transitioned the newsletter to a self-hosted Listmonk platform for seamless integration with my Second Brain. I’ve shared some exciting updates from my Second Brain, including my Computer Desk Setup, Markdown vs Rich Text, and a list of Open-Source Data Engineering Projects. I’ve also published several insightful articles on Airbyte’s Blog and shared popular social media posts on Data Engineering, Writing and Markdown, Random Life moments, and Neovim. Additionally, I’ve enjoyed reading books such as Moonwalking with Einstein, The Pathless Path, The Extended Mind, The Storyteller, and Fundamentals of Data Engineering.
