For two decades, I’ve been exploring the world of data and technology. What started as a hobby has grown into a passion for sharing knowledge about open-source data engineering. Through this blog, I aim to craft valuable & educational content for data engineers, BI specialists, and anyone eager to learn about data.

👨‍💻 About Me, Simon Späti

👋🏻Hi there! I’m Simon, a dad and family person with over 20 years of experience in Data Engineering who pivoted into Technical Writing. My passion is using technology and writing to make a positive impact.

I’m the author of this Blog, a top-ranked Data Engineering blog, and I’m currently writing a living book on Data Engineering Design Patterns. My work has been featured in publications like Towards Data Science and freeCodeCamp, and I’ve been recognized as a top writer on Quora and Databand.

One of my key contributions is the «Data Engineering Vault», a connected knowledge hub that revolutionizes how people learn about Data Engineering. I’m also passionate about Personal Knowledge Management, which led me to create my Public Second Brain.

I’m always excited to learn about new open-source technologies and share knowledge. If you’re interested in Data Engineering, Technical Writing, Neovim, or innovative learning approaches, I’d love to connect. For more about my journey and current projects, check out my Pathless Path, my Gigs (Podcasts, Videos), CV or GitHub.

Thanks for stopping by.

📖 What I’m doing now

(This is a Now Page, and if a website, you should create one, too.)

I had a two-week vacation in the beautiful Italian part of Switzerland. I took some time off, spent most of it in Lake Maggiore, playing with my kids. I enjoyed every bit of it, and was offline for most of the part.

A week later, I’ve finished my two-year or longer article, which is my longest yet, with a 60+ minute read. It’s very spiritual, check it out at Why Are We Here on Earth?.

I’ve uploaded lots of new articles to my second brain and created many new blogs. Check them out on the blog posts. Currently reading the Barack Obama Audible. It’s really cool to hear it in his voice, but since it’s 20+ hours, it will take a while.

Business-wise, I initiated my own company SSP Data GmbH. Nothing else changed, but it’s nice to invoice on your bank account and name. Other than that, I am enjoying the summer weather here in Switzerland and riding my race bike as much as possible. Check out my rides on Komoot, follow me if you are into bike tours :).
